Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., the man accused of the deadly shooting at the University of Virginia in November 2022, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges. On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Jones changed his plea to guilty in a Virginia court.

Jones pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and two counts of aggravated malicious wounding. The shooting incident resulted in the deaths of three UVA football players: Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry. Two other students, including Mike Hollins, were injured in the attack.

Under the plea deal, Jones could face up to five life sentences. He was originally scheduled to stand trial in January 2024 but opted for the guilty plea instead.

Jones, 22, was a UVA student and had previously been a member of the university’s football team. The case has been closely followed due to its impact on the university community and the broader public).
