Latter Day Saints General Conference April 2025

SALT LAKE CITY, April 6, 2025 — President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the construction of 15 new temples during the concluding session of the church’s April 2025 general conference. This expansion brings the total number of temples worldwide to 382, reflecting an unprecedented increase in temple-building since Nelson took office in 2018.

“We are grateful to the Lord for the acceleration of temple-building in recent years,” President Nelson stated during the session. “I testify that Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Israel, leads this, His Church. He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him.”

The 100-year-old church leader has announced 200 temples in his tenure, showing a commitment to providing sacred spaces for worship and community. Each temple serves as a house of the Lord, where church members can seek peace, inspiration, and spiritual power through sacred covenants with God.

This year’s new temple announcements include locations in Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Nigeria, the Philippines, New Caledonia, Australia, and the United States. The announcement reflects the growing membership and outreach of the church, which has seen significant growth, particularly in Latin America and Africa.

The Reynosa Mexico Temple will be the country’s 27th temple, serving a membership base of over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints. In Peru, the Chorrillos Temple will be the 10th, supporting a community of nearly 650,000 members.

Other notable new temples include the Rivera Uruguay Temple, which will join the existing Montevideo Temple, and the Campo Grande Brazil Temple, representing the 24th temple in Brazil amid a rapidly growing membership of more than 1.5 million Latter-day Saints across the country.

In Africa, the Uyo Nigeria Temple will be the seventh temple built in the region, reflecting the church’s rapid expansion on the continent, which is home to over 250,000 members.

The San Jose del Monte Philippines Temple, the country’s 14th, will support over 880,000 members as the church continues to thrive in the region since missionary work began in 1961.

In the Pacific, the first temple in New Caledonia will cater to more than 2,500 members, while Australia’s Liverpool Temple will become the second in the greater Sydney area, further establishing the church’s presence in the region.

In the United States, the Caldwell Idaho Temple will serve the Boise metropolitan area and mark the 11th temple in the state. Meanwhile, the Flagstaff Arizona Temple will become the ninth in Arizona, and the Rapid City South Dakota Temple will be the first temple in South Dakota, catering to a local membership of more than 11,500.

Finally, the Greenville South Carolina Temple will serve the state’s growing membership of nearly 46,000 Latter-day Saints, further extending the church’s reach in the southeastern United States.

President Nelson emphasized the importance of temple worship, stating, “Increased time in the temple will help us prepare for the Second Coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We do not know the day or the hour of His coming. But I do know that the Lord is prompting me to urge us to get ready for that ‘great and dreadful day.’” He urged members to embrace the blessings that come from regular temple attendance.
