FC Cincinnati midfielder Marco Angulo is currently hospitalized in Quito, Ecuador, following a car accident that resulted in one fatality and injuries to several others. The professional soccer player, who is on loan to the Ecuadorian Serie A club L.D.U. Quito, was involved in the crash when a black SUV collided with a bridge under construction on a highway in Quito.

According to reports from Ecuadorian news outlet El Universo, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Angulo, who was one of the four injured individuals, sustained a fractured pelvis and head injuries, as confirmed by medical professionals in Quito.

FC Cincinnati expressed their devastation regarding the incident. In a statement, the club said it is working to obtain more information and is committed to providing support for Angulo. “Our thoughts are with him and his family as we hope for his recovery, and our hearts go out to the families of the deceased and those injured in this tragic accident,” the statement read.

This is not the first time Angulo has been involved in a serious crash. At the age of 20, while playing for Ecuadorian team Independiente del Valle, he experienced a similar accident. Now 22, Angulo joined FC Cincinnati in December 2022, signing a contract through the 2025 season with an option for 2026. He debuted for the club in March 2023 and participated in 24 matches throughout the 2023 season.
