SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— Local baseball coach John Edman, along with his family, is showing unwavering support for his son, Tommy Edman, as he represents the Los Angeles Dodgers during the National League Division Series (NLDS). John Edman has dedicated the last 26 years to coaching at La Jolla Country Day School and reflects on the pride he felt when his son was part of the team. “It’s just a huge blessing; there’s no other way to put it other than that,” John Edman expressed.

Tommy Edman, now recognized as a crucial utility player in Major League Baseball (MLB), honed his skills at La Jolla Country Day School between 2010 and 2013. John Edman describes his son as a dedicated individual with a singular focus on team success. “People have asked him fairly frequently, like, what position do you prefer? And his answer is always, I’ll play wherever I’m asked to play if it’s going to help the team win,” John Edman explained.

John Edman reminisces about the early days, tracing Tommy’s journey from playing Little League and club baseball to attending Stanford University and eventually progressing to the MLB. “He was just always a very smart player who was entirely team-centered,” he recalled, describing Tommy as humble and talented on the field.

The Edman family has long shared a deep connection to baseball, a passion that continues as Tommy joins the Dodgers in their playoff quest. John Edman takes pride in acknowledging his son’s achievements and the positive influence he has on those around him. “We’re very proud, obviously; that’s kind of all you can hope for for your family is that they are, in one way or another, a light to other people in their lives,” he shared.

Tommy Edman has also left a lasting imprint on La Jolla Country Day School, becoming a member of its Hall of Fame, inspiring future generations. “Even the little kids know about him, and they’ll be out here at P.E., see me and look over and yell his name—and it’s kind of neat,” John Edman noted. “He’s just a good example for all of them with the work that he puts in. And I mean, he’s just a good person, to be honest.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to face the San Diego Padres on Saturday for the first game of the NLDS, with Tommy Edman gearing up to contribute to the team’s playoff ambitions.
