Coastal Flood Warning Cape Cod

HYANNIS, Mass. – The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood statement early Wednesday, warning residents of Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties of potential flooding due to high tides. The advisory, effective from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Thursday, highlights the risk of minor overwash in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

According to the weather service, tide levels are projected to reach between 3.1 to 12.1 feet above Mean Lower Low Water, raising concerns for localized flooding. “Some water on low-lying roads and property” is expected, officials stated. They further advised, “Do not drive through flooded roadways,” urging caution among both residents and travelers.

The announcement follows a series of coastal storms that have impacted the region, increasing vulnerability to flooding during high tide events. Ongoing monitoring by the National Weather Service aims to keep residents informed about developing conditions. In addition to issuing warnings, they also provide real-time radar updates and alerts on their website.

This warning comes as part of a broader set of currently active alerts across New England, with no major alerts reported at the time of publication. The weather service regularly updates its advisories every 10 minutes, providing critical information to the public as severe weather conditions evolve.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert for updates and to prepare for the possibility of localized flooding. Any property or roads in known flood-prone areas should be evaluated for safety as the high tides approach.
