Eastern North Carolina Weather Forecast

RALEIGH, N.C. — A cold front is set to move into Eastern North Carolina starting Saturday night and continuing into Sunday. This weather shift may bring heavy downpours and thunderstorms, particularly from pre-sunrise until midday on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has warned that widespread rain is likely, especially between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., when residents are advised to take extra precautions, particularly if traveling to church or running errands. The potential for strong wind gusts and small hail has been noted, although the likelihood of severe storms remains low.

“The first round of storms could produce loud rumbles of thunder and brief gusty winds,” said a meteorologist from the Storm Prediction Center. “After the initial rainfall in the morning, there may be a lull in the activity by late morning with a mix of sun and clouds.”

As the day progresses, some sunshine could lead to the development of isolated showers and storms in the afternoon and evening hours. These subsequent storms are expected to be less widespread than those in the morning. Current forecasts indicate that rainfall totals could reach up to 2.5 inches by Saturday.

For residents seeking real-time updates, the WITN Weather App is recommended for live radar and video updates regarding this developing storm system.
