Boulder, Colorado – The Colorado Buffaloes have decided to return to Kaidon Salter as their starting quarterback for this weekend’s game against Wyoming, a source confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

Salter started the first two games of the season before being benched in favor of Ryan Staub during Colorado’s 36-20 loss to Houston. Staub, who completed 19 of 35 passes for 204 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, struggled significantly in the second half, prompting the coaching staff to reassess their quarterback situation.

Once a third-string player, Salter began the season with a notable record of 23-6 as a starting quarterback at Liberty. His strong background included passing for 6,046 yards and 57 touchdowns over four seasons, as well as rushing for 2,056 yards and leading Liberty to a 13-1 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2023.

This season, Salter’s statistics with the Buffaloes include completing 30 of 44 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown, while also adding 68 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. His 68.2% completion rate has shown steady performance amidst a turbulent quarterback rotation that has included freshman Julian Lewis.

Kaidon Salter’s return as starter comes as the Buffaloes aim to improve their 1-2 record, highlighted by an underwhelming offensive performance that averages just 17 points per game. Tight ends coach Brett Bartolone expressed concern, stating, “Whatever we’ve been doing hasn’t been working… we have to find an identity and solidify the QB position.”

With the focus now back on Salter, the Buffaloes are looking for a turnaround, especially with tough Big 12 matchups approaching. Coach Deion Sanders emphasized the need for stability at the quarterback position to help the team find success.

The upcoming game against Wyoming is considered crucial for Colorado as they look to establish their offensive identity and build momentum moving forward in the season.
