Colorado Sheriff’s Deputy Resigns After Appearing in Adult Films to Pay Bills

Shannon Lofland, a 21-year veteran of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado, has resigned from her position after it was discovered that she had been appearing in adult films to make ends meet. Lofland, a 44-year-old wife and mother, turned to the adult entertainment industry due to severe financial difficulties, including rising debt, high interest rates, and spiraling costs.

Lofland’s financial struggles began after a June 2023 storm caused $500,000 in hail and water damage to her home, which her insurance did not cover. Additionally, her adjustable-rate mortgage tripled, leading to foreclosure, and she faced increasing utility, gas, and food costs. Despite draining her savings, borrowing money from her family, and cutting spending, Lofland found herself unable to keep up with the debt collectors.

“I was desperate, I was drowning,” Lofland told CBS News Colorado. “I found a legal, lucrative means for providing that support for my family that I needed at that time to save my home for them and feed my family.” She admitted to working in the adult film industry for about a month and acknowledged that she had probably broken internal regulations by not requesting permission for her secondary employment.

The sheriff’s office initiated an internal investigation after learning about Lofland’s off-the-clock job, which led to her resignation. Lofland had been a dedicated member of the force, running the department’s driving academy and serving on the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training board, from which she also stepped down several weeks ago.

Lofland expressed that her actions were made out of desperation and that her husband supported her decision. She also mentioned that the industry was “professional” enough that she never experienced any pressure or coercion. While she has resigned from her position, Lofland has not ruled out the possibility of continuing to work in the adult film industry.
