Columbus Ohio Snowstorm January 2025

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A winter storm is set to blanket central Ohio with significant snowfall, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory from midday Friday through Saturday morning. Temperatures dipped to near zero early Friday, with wind chills plunging below zero, creating hazardous conditions for residents.

The National Weather Service predicts 2 to 3 inches of snow accumulation across most of central Ohio, with localized areas potentially receiving up to 4 inches. Snow showers began in western Ohio late Friday afternoon and are expected to spread eastward, continuing overnight before tapering off by Saturday morning.

“Bundle up and prepare for slippery roads,” advised meteorologist Andrew Buck. “Winds of 10 to 15 mph on Saturday could cause blowing and drifting snow, particularly on north-south roadways.”

Residents are urged to exercise caution while shoveling snow and driving, as the combination of low temperatures and snow-covered roads increases the risk of accidents. The Ohio Department of Transportation has deployed snowplows to keep major highways clear, but secondary roads may remain hazardous.

Weekend temperatures are expected to hover near 30 degrees during the day, with overnight lows around 20. A brief warm-up is forecast for early next week, but another round of frigid air will follow, with highs in the upper teens and lows in the single digits by midweek.

Light snow is possible on Monday, with minimal accumulation expected. Flurries and light lake-effect snow may also affect northern parts of central Ohio later in the week, though Columbus is unlikely to see significant additional snowfall.

Local officials are reminding residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure heating systems are functioning properly as the cold snap continues. “This is a serious winter event,” said Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman. “Stay safe, stay warm, and limit travel if possible.”
