Community Mourns Loss of Prominent Residents
Several communities are in mourning following the passing of prominent residents from various backgrounds and age groups, leaving behind memories and legacies cherished by family, friends, and the community.
Carl 'David' Gilmore, aged 77, from Bluefield, Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024. Gilmore’s obituary, which can be viewed on Cravens-Shires Funeral Home’s website, highlights his seamless contributions to his community during his lifetime. A service to commemorate his life will be held at a later date.
A native of Richlands, Virginia, and Yorktown, another esteemed community member passed away on August 27. A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, at 10 a.m. at Greenhills Memorial Gardens located in Claypool Hill, Virginia. The service is expected to draw family, friends, and community members who wish to pay their last respects.
The community of Pageton, West Virginia, is also mourning the loss of a 46-year-old local resident who passed away on September 26. In honor of their memory, a memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 12, at Long Point Missionary Baptist Church, situated at 4121 Anawalt Ridge Road in Anawalt, West Virginia.
Lastly, Bluefield, West Virginia, bids farewell to a 92-year-old community cornerstone who passed away on September 18. A memorial service, preceded by a gathering of friends from 1 to 2 p.m., will take place on Saturday, October 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield. Following the service, there will be a reception to celebrate the individual’s impactful life and contributions.
These services are offering a time for both grief and reflection, allowing the community an opportunity to come together, support one another, and honor those who have passed. Each of these individuals has left a lasting imprint on their communities, marking legacies of love, service, and dedication.
