BARDSTOWN, Ky. — The community is grieving the loss of three cherished residents who recently passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.

Alexis Jo “Lexi” Newton, 25, died April 3, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born November 10, 1999, to Jeremy Joe Newton and Jacqueline Michelle Hilbert, Lexi endured a battle with Leukodystrophy, also known as Canavan Disease, after being given only three years to live. Her parents provided unwavering support, allowing her to live a full life, brightening rooms with her smile and contagious laughter.

“She was a teacher and a guide to all who knew her,” her family shared. “Even without words, her eyes conveyed her intelligence and love for everyone around her.” Lexi is survived by her parents, one sister, two brothers, and several extended family members, but was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather and both paternal grandparents.

Her funeral is set for 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, with burial at Bardstown Cemetery. Visitation will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.

Robert Edwin Spalding, 80, also passed away on April 3, 2025, at Baptist Health Louisville. A retired electrician and U.S. Navy veteran, he was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Howardstown. Renowned for his community spirit and love for his family, he was affectionately known as “Neighbor.”

Spalding was a passionate sports fan, ardently supporting the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He is survived by his long-time partner, a son, two brothers, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St. Ann Catholic Church, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. prior to the service.

Finally, Jan Jeffires, 53, of New Haven, died on April 1, 2025, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. Born November 1, 1971, she was known for her love of family. Arts and crafts with her grandchildren and family gatherings brought her joy, as did playing bingo and cards.

Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Danny Jeffires, and her parents. She is survived by her son, a sister, a brother, and three grandchildren. Her funeral service will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Barlow Funeral Home, with visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. that same day.
