Conservationist to be Honored at Indianapolis Gala

INDIANAPOLIS — Dr. Lily-Arison René de Roland will be honored at a gala in September for his work in conservation. Over the past 33 years, he has dedicated himself to saving endangered birds of prey in Madagascar, including a rare duck thought to be extinct since the 1990s.
René de Roland, affectionately known as Lily, spoke about a significant moment in his conservation career. “After I saw it, it looks like a dream to me to see this species,” he said, referring to the Madagascar pochard. “It’s one of the first species I discovered in Madagascar.”
The gala is expected to draw attention to the ongoing efforts in wildlife preservation, highlighting the importance of protecting rare species like the Madagascar pochard. Lily’s dedication has inspired many in the conservation community and beyond.
