A recent incident at Baraboo High School’s graduation ceremony has ignited a wave of controversy and outrage, as a video capturing a disruptive moment involving a parent and the district superintendent has gone viral.

The unsettling scene unfolded as a man, identified as the father of a graduating student, shoved Superintendent Rainey Briggs aside just as his daughter was about to receive her diploma and shake hands with school officials.

The incident led to the man being charged with disorderly conduct, and a temporary restraining order was filed against him, necessitating a court appearance in the Sauk County Circuit Court in August.

State Representative Francesca Hong, who condemned the incident as a racist attack on the superintendent, highlighted the racial dynamics at play and the pervasive issue of racism in Wisconsin.

The Baraboo Board of Education issued a statement expressing disapproval of the disruptive behavior and emphasizing the importance of civil discourse and respectful engagement within the school community.

Baraboo, a city in Sauk County near Wisconsin Dells, has been at the center of intense scrutiny following the graduation incident and the subsequent legal actions taken.

A video clip from MAX TV captured the disruptive moment, showing the father pushing Superintendent Briggs out of the line before his daughter could complete the traditional handshake.

Briggs, in the restraining order against the father, recounted being verbally harassed and pushed, leading to a tumultuous interruption during the celebratory event.

The Sauk County District Attorney’s Office has been presented with disorderly conduct charges against the father, as the community grapples with the fallout from the disturbing incident at the high school graduation.
