The Edmonton Oilers clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh game of their quarter-final series. This win propelled the Oilers forward to the next round where they will face off against the Dallas Stars.

The triumph on the ice was undoubtedly a cause for celebration among the Oilers players, but one individual who stood out was Corey Perry. Despite not being part of the active lineup and watching the game from the spectator stands, Perry had a unique reason to cheer extra loud.

According to reports from the renowned website Puck Pedia, the seasoned forward received a $50,000 bonus simply for witnessing his team advance to the conference finals. This clause in his contract stipulated that if Edmonton made it that far and Perry had participated in at least 50% of the playoff games, he would be entitled to the bonus.

Evidently, Perry had quite the enjoyable evening snacking on popcorn as he pocketed the unexpected bonus. However, the surprises didn’t end there for the veteran player.

Perry had strategically negotiated another incentive into his contract when signing with the Oilers towards the end of the season. He stands to earn an additional $50,000 if Edmonton manages to reach the Stanley Cup Finals, provided he hits the minimum requirement of playing in half of the team’s playoff matches.

This clever deal-making by Perry during his discussions with Oilers’ GM Ken Holland now puts him in line for a substantial financial boost should the team continue their successful playoff run.
