Coronation Street Actor Bruce Jones Reveals Haunting Nightmares After Yorkshire Ripper Ordeal
Coronation Street‘s former star, Bruce Jones, known for his portrayal of Les Battersby, has opened up about the lasting trauma he endured after being wrongly linked to the Yorkshire Ripper case.
Revealing in a recent interview, Jones disclosed that the harrowing incident where he stumbled upon one of the Ripper’s victims, 20-year-old Jean Jordan, continues to haunt him, leaving him with persistent nightmares.
The incident dates back to 1977, in Manchester, when Jones, a fireman at the time, encountered the gruesome scene while working at an allotment with a friend.
Despite a successful acting career, including collaborations with director Ken Loach in ‘Raining Stones‘ and a significant stint on the popular soap ‘Coronation Street’, Jones struggled under the weight of tabloid scrutiny.
Notably, a high-profile clash with ‘The Fake Sheikh‘ in 2007 led to Jones facing severe backlash, subsequently spiraling into personal challenges, including a turbulent period marked by depression and alcohol abuse.
However, demonstrating resilience, Jones has since embarked on projects aiming to shed light on mental health issues, such as starring in a one-man play ‘TALK!! Tackling the Taboo’ in 2013.
While grappling with past traumas, Jones remains steadfast in his determination to pursue his passion for acting, expressing a deep connection to the craft that has driven his career over the years.
As Jones reflects on his tumultuous journey, the support of organizations like Samaritans and Mind has played a pivotal role in his ongoing recovery and advocacy for mental health awareness.
