CSIR Floriculture Mission workshop concludes
A workshop on ‘Value Addition of Floricultural Crops for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’ held under the CSIR Floriculture Mission has concluded. The five-day workshop took place at CSIR-IIIM, Branch Srinagar and was organized by Dr Zabeer Ahmed, the Director of CSIR-IIIM, and Er. Abdul Rahim, the Head of CSIR-IIIM Srinagar.
A total of 75 participants, including self-help groups from JKRLM, floriculture technocrats, and aspiring entrepreneurs, received hands-on training in various aspects of value addition of flowers. They were trained in techniques such as Dry Floral Technology, Floral Arrangements, Floral Resin Art, Flower Pressing, Floral Jewellery Making, and Flower Press Printing.
During the workshop, the participants were actively involved in project-making and a competition in different categories, with winners and runner-ups being selected by an expert jury. Their floral specimens and creations were also displayed during the event.
The valedictory session of the workshop was attended by Dr Imtiyaz T Nazki, Head of Floriculture and Landscaping at SKUAST-K, Dr Nasheeman Ashraf, Principal Scientist at CSIR IIIM, Dr Shahid Rasool, Nodal Scientist at CSIR Floriculture Mission, Farooq Ahmad Mir, a prominent floriculturist, Nasir Ali Khan, a radio personality and social media influencer, and District Programme Managers of JKRLM from Srinagar, Pulwama, and Budgam.
During the session, Nasir Ali Khan appreciated the organizers for conducting a unique workshop that explored unconventional uses of flowers. He also gave a detailed presentation on the importance of using social media as a tool for enterprise promotion, providing insights into search engine algorithms and how to leverage social media effectively.
