Darius Mccrary Family Matters Arrest News

San Diego, California — Former ‘Family Matters‘ star Darius McCrary is in jail after being arrested on October 5. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol apprehended him while trying to enter the U.S. from Mexico on a felony warrant from Michigan.

McCrary, 49, appeared in court on Wednesday, October 15, where the judge denied his bail request. Prosecutors argued he poses a flight risk due to the circumstances of his arrest. McCrary was on the run from Michigan authorities after allegedly missing a court appearance concerning unpaid child support.

Initially, McCrary opted to represent himself in court but was appointed a public defender. The court ruled he would remain in custody for up to 30 days until he is extradited to Michigan.

During the court session, conflicting statements arose about McCrary’s presence in Mexico. Prosecutors claimed he was there scouting real estate. In contrast, McCrary’s public defender stated he had been engaged in charity work aimed at building homes for the unhoused.

McCrary’s representative, Ann Barlow, insists he is not a flight risk and that he crossed into Mexico by accident. She stated he was confused about the meeting location for the Esperanza program, a charitable endeavor he is involved in.

According to court documents, McCrary has another scheduled court appearance in Michigan on November 14.

McCrary’s legal troubles include past issues from his contentious divorce from ex-wife Tammy Brawner, finalized in 2019. Brawner accused him of abusive behavior during their marriage, which he denied.

As part of their divorce agreement, McCrary is required to pay $1,366 monthly in child support for their daughter Zoe. He was also ordered to attend rehabilitation classes and have supervised visitation until he complied with court mandates.

McCrary’s past legal issues include previous arrests for unpaid child support, raising concerns about his ongoing compliance with court orders.

He is best known for his role as Eddie Winslow on the popular ’90s sitcom ‘Family Matters,’ which aired from 1989 to 1998.
