David Mitchell Ludwig Bbc Series

David Mitchell is set to lead the cast of ‘Ludwig‘, a new comedy-drama series that will soon be aired on BBC One. In this series, Mitchell portrays John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, described as a reclusive puzzle setter who is unexpectedly thrust into an investigative role when his identical twin brother, James, goes missing. The series follows Ludwig as he assumes his brother’s identity to unearth clues about James’s whereabouts, a task complicated by his unfamiliarity with life as a distinguished Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) in Cambridge‘s Major Investigations Team.

The show embraces a case-of-the-week format, intertwining each episode’s murder mystery with an ongoing storyline centered on James’s mysterious disappearance. Discussing his upcoming role, Mitchell stated, “I’ve always loved murder mysteries. Some of my happiest viewing memories are as a child watching Miss Marple with Joan Hickson and Inspector Morse.” He further explained his preference for mysteries that balance intrigue with humor, noting, “I think when it can have a comic spin as well, that’s even better.”

Mitchell revealed that the concept for ‘Ludwig’ originated from a pitch document by writer Mark Brotherhood before the COVID-19 pandemic, describing it as “funny and intriguing.” He expressed enthusiasm about the show’s concept, particularly the comedic potential presented by his character’s predicament of impersonating his adept twin. “It means you have a sort of classic comic scenario of John, going into a situation where he’s a complete fish out of water,” he remarked.

As the premiere date approaches, audiences can expect appearances from various guest stars throughout the series. The first episode of ‘Ludwig’ is scheduled to air on Wednesday, September 25, at 9 p.m. on BBC One. Following its premiere, the six-episode series will continue in the same timeslot over the following weeks. Additionally, the series will be accessible for viewing on the BBC Player.
