Daylight Saving Time Changes Spring 2025

Rattankun Thongbun, MassachusettsDaylight Saving Time officially began at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2025, as clocks were set forward one hour, signaling the arrival of longer daylight hours. As spring approaches, residents are looking forward to warmer weather and the upcoming holidays, including Easter on April 20.

Daylight Saving Time was established more than a century ago during World War I to make better use of daylight and conserve energy. Many welcome the shift, noting that daylight now stretches until about 7 p.m.

“It’s a nice reminder that spring is almost here,” said local resident Jane Smith. “I love seeing the longer days and it definitely brightens my mood.”

The vernal equinox, which marks the official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, occurs on March 20, 2025, at 5:01 a.m. EDT. The equinox signifies a balance between day and night, as both last approximately 12 hours worldwide.

During this season, several important holidays occur, notably Easter and Passover. Easter Sunday in 2025 will inspire family gatherings, festive meals, and various traditions across Christian households. Common dishes include ham, rolls, and Easter baskets filled with treats.

According to a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Retailers Association, many stores will remain open on Easter Sunday for last-minute shoppers, providing essentials such as milk, bread, and ice cream. Residents are reminded to check store hours before heading out.

“We know holidays can be hectic; we’re here to help customers find what they need, even on short notice,” said retail representative Tom Reynolds.

For those concerned about holiday preparations, organizing shopping lists in advance can ease the stress that often accompanies holiday feasting. Early gathering of supplies can ensure a more relaxed experience when Easter arrives.

Residents are encouraged to cherish this season, enjoying the festivities while also embracing the rejuvenation that spring typically brings. As religious holidays approach, communities across Massachusetts are gearing up for celebrations with family and friends.
