Greyhound Bus Crash Madison County

JACKSON, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is investigating a deadly crash involving a Greyhound bus that occurred on Highway 70 in Madison County on Monday night.

The incident involved a passenger vehicle and left two people dead and several others injured. According to THP, one of the deceased was a passenger on the bus.

On Tuesday night, the bodies of the victims were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for forensics and identification.

Greyhound confirmed that the bus was traveling from Memphis to Nashville and had approximately 32 passengers on board, along with one bus operator and a relief driver. A Greyhound spokesperson indicated that thirty people were hospitalized, although most have already been released.

In a statement to WMC, Greyhound said, “Our team is actively investigating the situation and providing necessary assistance to our passengers, the driver, and law enforcement.”

The THP’s Critical Incident Response Team completed its preliminary investigation, processed the crash scene, and examined the bus’s mechanical systems.

Moving forward, THP will focus on witness interviews and a detailed analysis of evidence.

The Madison County Fire Rescue Department initially labeled the incident a “mass casualty incident,” prompting a coordinated response from multiple agencies at the scene of the crash.

Madison County Fire Department, THP, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and MedCenter EMS worked together to rescue occupants and organize ambulance transports to local hospitals.
