Decade-Long Search for Missing Birmingham Mother Continues After Unsuccessful Yard Dig
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — More than a decade after Kierra Stubbs vanished, Birmingham police executed a search warrant Thursday at a home in the 4600 block of Terrace S, following tips in the unsolved case of the missing 23-year-old mother of two. The search, which included digging in the yard, yielded no human remains, authorities confirmed.
Stubbs disappeared on April 24, 2014, after meeting a man she knew at a Boost Mobile store in Five Points West. Surveillance footage captured her entering a burgundy 2012 Chrysler 200 with the man, who had promised to help her fix her car brakes. She was never seen again.
“During the search, we did not find human remains,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said in a press release Friday. “We cannot begin to imagine the challenges and anguish that Kierra’s family has faced over the past 10-plus years.”
The case, initially handled by the Special Victims Unit and retired homicide Det. Rodney Rogers, has been under the purview of Det. Jonathan Ross since 2019. Ross remains committed to solving the case, Fitzgerald said.
Stubbs’ family described her as a devoted mother and hard worker. “She was a sweet, funny, loving person,” her aunt said. “She loved her family. She loved her kids. That’s all she wanted to do — work and spend time with her family.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Det. Ross at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $5,000 for tips leading to breakthroughs in the case.
