Deion Sanders, the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and a celebrated figure in the football community, has explicitly downplayed comparisons between himself and his current star player, Travis Hunter. Sanders, renowned for his illustrious career both in college and the NFL, emphasized that it is now Hunter’s time to shine. “It’s not me against Travis,” Sanders told reporters. “I had my turn, man. I’m not a door knob anymore. You can just turn me on and off like a lightswitch anymore. I don’t do that.”

During his own career, Sanders was a two-time All-American at Florida State University, a Thorpe Award winner, and a member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. Today, he takes pride in mentoring Hunter, a talented two-way player for the Buffaloes.

“I’m that old boxing coach in the corner that says, ‘Left. Right. Left. Right. Hit him right here. Come on over to the corner. Let me tell you this,'” Sanders continued. “That’s who I am right now. I’ve had my turn. It’s not me against him.”

Hunter, in his second season with the Buffaloes, has made a significant impact both offensively and defensively. As a wide receiver, he has registered 46 receptions, 561 yards, and six touchdowns. On the defensive side, Hunter has achieved 16 tackles and two interceptions as a lockdown cornerback.

This weekend, Hunter and the Colorado Buffaloes face a crucial Big 12 conference matchup against an unspecified opponent in Boulder, which could be pivotal for their aspirations towards a Big 12 Championship and potentially a College Football Playoff berth.

In an unrelated but notable event, NFL legend Richard Sherman had recently clarified comments he made about Hunter. The discussion occurred during Hunter’s podcast, where Sherman and Hunter dispelled any misunderstanding about Sherman’s remarks. Sherman explained his earlier statement, saying he meant that as a receiver, Hunter might “blend” into the crowd compared to his standout capabilities as a cornerback, a position Sherman himself excelled in.

After initially believing Sherman called him “bland,” Hunter reacted humorously by wearing a t-shirt with the word “bland” at a recent game. The miscommunication seems to have been resolved, with Hunter likely to seek guidance from Sherman, given the parallels in their career paths.
