Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Arrested by ED in Money Laundering Case
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an excise policy-linked money laundering case, marking the first instance of a sitting Chief Minister being apprehended. The arrest of Kejriwal came following the Delhi High Court’s dismissal of a plea seeking protection for the Chief Minister from any coercive action by the agency.
Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate began conducting searches at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Civil Lines. Kejriwal had previously avoided responding to around nine ED summons connected to the money laundering case.
The development occurred amidst the electoral campaigns for the Lok Sabha elections, raising controversy and heated reactions. AAP promptly responded by affirming that Arvind Kejriwal would maintain his position as the Chief Minister of Delhi, even if he were to face custody. The BJP, on the other hand, demanded Kejriwal’s resignation as a matter of moral ethics.
