Delhi District Judge Dismissed Following Viral Courtroom Incident
In a move marking significant disciplinary action within the judicial system, the Delhi High Court has recommended the immediate termination of District Judge Aman Pratap Singh. This follows a controversial incident at the Dwarka court where Singh was recorded engaging in an unprofessional tirade that was subsequently circulated widely on social media.
According to a notification issued by Delhi’s Department of Law, Justice, and Legislative Affairs on October 10, the decision to terminate Singh’s services was made based on provisions outlined in the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Rules, 1970, as amended. The Lt. Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, in consultation with the High Court of Delhi, confirmed the termination, which was enforced immediately.
Sources indicate that Singh, who began serving as an additional district judge in May 2023 after passing the Delhi Higher Judicial Service Examinations, was still on probation at the time of the incident. His time in office was marked by findings of indiscipline, a low disposal rate of cases, and failure to adhere to court schedules, leading to his probationary status being reviewed and ultimately resulting in his dismissal.
The incident in question involved Singh being captured on video standing and shouting at court staff and the counsel for an accused during a court session. This display of anger and lack of decorum was deemed wholly unacceptable by the High Court, leading to his suspension on September 19 as authorities launched a thorough investigation into his conduct.
The Delhi High Court’s unwavering stance on maintaining strict standards within the judiciary reflects a commitment to uphold professionalism and integrity. This decisive action aims to preserve public trust in legal institutions by demonstrating zero tolerance for behavior that undermines the dignity of judicial roles.
