Delhi Scorched by Intense Heatwave, Red Alert in National Capital
The scorching heatwave engulfing Delhi has prompted the India Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for the national capital. With soaring temperatures and oppressive conditions, Delhi finds itself in the grip of an unprecedented weather event.
Reports from various weather stations paint a dire picture, with Safdarjung station recording a blistering 45.2 degrees Celsius, a substantial 6.4 degrees above the seasonal average. The situation is no better at other stations like Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge, Ayanagar, and Najafgarh, all experiencing temperatures much higher than normal.
Meteologists predict that the extreme heatwave is expected to persist, with most places in Delhi witnessing these severe conditions. The mornings offer no respite either, as the city experienced warm morning temperatures well above typical levels.
Other regions facing similar severe heatwave conditions include Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, North Madhya Pradesh, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh, all grappling with the scorching temperatures till the specified dates.
An indication of relief comes with the expected change in alert levels for Delhi, transitioning from red to yellow by mid-week and then becoming green towards the weekend. The drop in temperatures will hopefully bring some relief to the residents enduring the heatwave.
