Delhi Sizzles at Record-Breaking 52.3 Degrees Celsius, Highest Temperature Ever Recorded in India
India witnessed history as the mercury soared to unprecedented levels today, with the India Meteorological Department reporting a scorching 52.3 degrees Celsius in the national capital, Delhi. This record-breaking temperature, recorded in Mungeshpur, surpasses all previous benchmarks and marks the highest temperature ever documented in the country.
The relentless heatwave gripping Delhi and its neighboring regions has been attributed to the influx of hot winds from the arid terrains of Rajasthan. As per Kuldeep Srivastava, the regional head of the India Meteorological Department, areas like Najafgarh, Mungeshpur, and Narela are bearing the brunt of these fiery winds, exacerbating the already severe weather conditions.
Not just Delhi, but several other regions are also feeling the heat wave’s intensity. Phalodi and Sirsa in Rajasthan witnessed soaring temperatures of 51 and 50.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Additionally, the rapidly rising power demand in Delhi underscores the strain imposed on the city’s power grids, reaching an all-time high of 8,302 megawatts.
The weather dynamics have also changed with the onset of moist winds from the Arabian Sea, signifying a potential respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions in certain regions. Meanwhile, forecasts indicate a gradual drop in the maximum temperatures over Uttar Pradesh, thanks to the anticipated incursion of moist winds from the Bay of Bengal.
