Delta Flight from Atlanta to DC Diverted to North Carolina Due to Odor in Flight Deck
A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Virginia was forced to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Wednesday evening due to a reported odor in the flight deck.
The flight, identified as Delta Flight 850, was diverted out of an abundance of caution. The Airbus 320 landed safely at RDU just after 5 p.m. local time, where it was met by firefighters who evaluated the situation.
The aircraft had 150 passengers and six crew members on board, all of whom were removed from the plane and transferred to a new aircraft to resume their journey to Washington D.C. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Delta Airlines emphasized that “safety is always our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels.”.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated an investigation into the cause of the odor and the subsequent diversion of the flight.
