Denver Snowstorm Winter Weather 2024

DENVER, Colo. — Denver residents are preparing for a snowy and cold weekend as meteorologists predict 1 to 4 inches of snow in the metro area, with higher totals of 2 to 5 inches expected in the foothills. Eastern Colorado, however, is likely to see much less accumulation.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the region, warning of potentially hazardous travel conditions due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with daytime highs struggling to reach the mid-20s and overnight lows plunging into the single digits.

“This system is bringing a mix of light to moderate snowfall, with the heaviest accumulations in the foothills,” said meteorologist Sarah Johnson of the National Weather Service. “Drivers should exercise caution, especially on elevated roadways and bridges.”

Local authorities are urging residents to prepare for the cold snap by ensuring their homes are properly heated and their vehicles are winter-ready. Denver Public Works has already deployed snowplows and salt trucks to major roadways in anticipation of the storm.

While the snowfall is not expected to break records, the combination of snow and frigid temperatures could create challenging conditions for commuters and outdoor activities. Schools and businesses are monitoring the situation closely, with some considering delays or closures if conditions worsen.

Eastern Colorado, including areas like Limon and Burlington, is forecast to receive less than an inch of snow, with minimal impact on travel. However, wind chill factors could make temperatures feel even colder across the state.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. “It’s always better to be prepared and stay safe,” Johnson added.
