Prominent musician Deryck Whibley has made serious allegations against Greig Nori, the former manager of his band, Sum 41, in his newly released memoir. Whibley accuses Nori, a co-founder of the band Treble Charger and a well-known Sault Ste. Marie musician, of coercing him into a sexual relationship during Whibley’s teenage years.

Whibley, who is the lead singer of the band Sum 41, disclosed in his memoir that he met Nori when he was 16 years old. At that time, Nori, who was in his early 30s, became a mentor and eventually the manager of Sum 41 as they were an up-and-coming band from Ajax, Ontario. “He was becoming like an older brother and even father figure to me,” Whibley recounted in the book, describing Nori as “cool, generous, and kind.”

According to Whibley, the relationship took a turn when the two were in New York, a city where Whibley claims they ingested ecstasy together at a party. It was during this trip that Nori allegedly initiated a physical relationship by kissing Whibley, a move that left the then-teen confused and unsure of Nori’s intentions. Whibley described the incident in his book, noting, “I was very confused. Was that OK? Was I upset? Did I like it? Was he gay? Was he just high and being crazy?”

The allegations, which Nori denies, state that the inappropriate conduct continued thereafter, with Nori allegedly persuading Whibley to continue the physical aspect of their relationship under pressure. Whibley also mentioned that the encounters continued against his will, leaving him feeling conflicted due to the trust he placed in Nori as a mentor.

Whibley further claims that the relationship caused tension within Sum 41, leading the band to eventually dismiss Nori as their manager in 2005. He also alleges that verbal abuse was part of his experience, with Nori allegedly discouraging Whibley and his bandmates from maintaining contact with their families.

In response to these allegations, Greig Nori has publicly declared them as “false” and has reportedly retained a defamation lawyer. “These are false allegations,” Nori told The Globe and Mail, adding that he had not heard about the allegations until they were disclosed online by several media outlets.

SooToday has stated that they reached out to Nori for further comments but have yet to receive a response. Nori has not been charged criminally in connection with the allegations presented in Whibley’s book, and there is no independent verification available for these claims at this time.
