Dhanush’s ‘Raayan’ Off to a Strong Start at the Box Office
Tamil superstar Dhanush‘s latest film, ‘Raayan’, opened to a solid response at the box office on its first day, July 26, earning an estimated ₹12.5 crore. The movie, directed by Dhanush himself, has generated considerable buzz among fans and film critics alike.
‘Raayan’ was originally set for a June 13 release but debuted a bit later, becoming one of the most anticipated films in recent months. The film is available in Telugu and Hindi versions, with the Tamil version making the largest contribution to its box office earnings.
According to reports from industry tracker Sacnilk, the Tamil version garnered ₹11 crore, while the Telugu version brought in around ₹1.5 crore. However, the Hindi version seems to have struggled to attract audiences, resulting in no reported earnings from that market.
This film also marks a significant milestone for Dhanush, as it is his 50th leading role. The film has an impressive cast, featuring talents like S. J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, Selvaraghavan, and Kalidas Jayaram.
Through advance bookings leading up to the release, ‘Raayan’ created quite a buzz, with over 436,000 tickets sold that brought in approximately ₹6.15 crore. This impressive figure resulted in ‘Raayan’ surpassing the day one collections of Dhanush’s previous hit, ‘Karnan’, which collected ₹10.40 crore on its opening day.
The film tells the gripping tale of a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai who seeks vengeance against a gang that had devastated his family. Dhanush’s direction and performance are central to the film, showcasing his dual talents in front of and behind the camera.
Acclaimed composer A. R. Rahman has also contributed significantly to the film, with a score that enhances its emotional depth. ‘Raayan’ runs for 145 minutes, immersing the audience in a narrative filled with action, familial drama, and intense conflicts.
As of now, ‘Raayan’ is running in theaters, and audiences are eager to see how it performs in the coming days. The film’s initial success hints at its potential to continue drawing in crowds throughout its theatrical run.
