Dji Flip Drone Unfolded In Hand

SHENZHEN, China — DJI, the global leader in drone technology, unveiled its latest innovation, the DJI Flip, on Jan. 14, 2025. Priced at $439, the Flip is designed to attract beginners with its user-friendly features, including hand-launch capability, advanced camera quality, and enhanced flight stability.

The DJI Flip stands out with its unique folding design, which automatically powers on when unfolded. It features full-coverage propeller guards and a forward-facing 3D infrared sensor to protect the camera from impacts. The drone boasts a 1/1.3-inch 4K60 sensor capable of capturing 48-megapixel stills and 2.7K vertical video, making it a versatile tool for content creators.

“The DJI Flip combines the simplicity of the Neo with the stunning photo capabilities of the Mini,” said Daisy Kong, a DJI spokesperson. “It’s a new entry-level drone series that will be offered alongside the DJI Neo and DJI Mini, each designed to meet the needs of different types of beginners.”

Despite its beginner-friendly design, the Flip offers features typically found in higher-end models, such as a three-axis gimbal for stability and 10-bit D-Log M recording for professional-grade video. However, it lacks support for FPV headsets, limiting its appeal to drone enthusiasts seeking immersive flight experiences.

The Flip’s battery life is quoted at 31 minutes, and it comes with a basic RC-N3 joystick controller. A $779 Fly More kit includes three batteries, a carrying case, and a DJI RC 2 controller with a built-in screen. Comparatively, the DJI Mini 4 Pro kits cost significantly more, starting at $959.

While the Flip is larger and louder than some competitors, its advanced features and affordable price point make it a compelling option for newcomers to drone photography. The drone is available for purchase starting Jan. 14, 2025.
