LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Dodgers made a key move before the trade deadline by acquiring catcher Ben Rortvedt. While the team did not aggressively pursue trades to fill their primary gaps, Rortvedt has quickly gained traction as a fan favorite since joining the organization.

“It’s really cool. Any kind of support is awesome. This game is hard, so when you get support, it means a lot,” Rortvedt told DodgerBlue.com about his rising popularity among fans. He has noticed an increase in cheers when his name is announced at Dodger Stadium, which he finds encouraging.

Rortvedt’s contributions have not gone unnoticed within the Dodgers’ clubhouse. Manager Dave Roberts and pitcher Blake Snell have praised him, and he has earned a spot on the playoff roster for the upcoming Wild Card Series.

Although Rortvedt does not have a definitive nickname yet, he is open to suggestions. “I have some nicknames that are thrown around, but I’ve never really been a nickname guy,” he said. “Whatever they want to call me, it’s good.” One nickname, “Benny Ro,” has gained popularity among fans.

His walk-up song has also become part of his persona. It features a saxophone solo that went viral in a meme featuring the Pokémon character Squirtle. Rortvedt explained, “I found the song and played it as a joke. I had it as my walk-up song with the Rays and loved it.” The track belongs to the Moldovan group SunStroke Project and singer Olia Tira, who performed it at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest.

As the Dodgers prepare for the playoffs, all eyes will be on Rortvedt to see how he contributes to the team’s success in October.
