Dodgers Activate Venezuelan Reliever Amidst Playoff Roster Changes
TORONTO — The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Venezuelan reliever Jorge Henríquez for the second time this postseason, following the unfortunate departure of another player from their World Series roster. Henríquez struggled in his first outing in the Wild Card Series, failing to record an out and giving up a hit and an earned run in the Dodgers’ 10-5 victory.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted Henríquez’s strong arsenal, stating, “He has velocity, a slider, and a sinker. He is someone who can help us contain those right-handed hitters.” Henríquez has previous postseason experience, having appeared in three games last year, including the World Series victory against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Reliever Phil Vescia had to leave the Dodgers’ bullpen for personal reasons after pitching in seven games this postseason. Roberts expressed support, saying, “He is in our hearts, and we will miss him. We will be thinking about him. He is certainly a part of this. It’s even more motivation for us.” However, Roberts did not provide further details on Vescia’s situation, only noting that “baseball was the least of his concerns.”
The Dodgers also did not activate reliever Tanner Scott, who has been sidelined due to injury since the Divisional Series against the San Diego Padres. Henríquez’s role will now be significant as he joins the postseason lineup.
Dodgers General Manager Andrew Friedman expressed confidence in the team’s bullpen, saying, “We feel good in terms of our relievers, lefties and righties. Edgardo and Will help us with their pitch mix and matchups against some of the best hitters in the world.”
