Dodgers Manager Eyes Bullpen Changes Ahead of Playoffs

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced potential changes to the team’s bullpen as the playoffs approach. Reliever Kyle Hurt, recovering from Tommy John surgery, could be brought back into the fold despite limited Major League experience.
Hurt has only appeared in four MLB games, where he allowed one earned run over 8.2 innings. In his rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Oklahoma City, he played six games, compiling a 2.16 ERA and striking out 10 batters in 8.1 innings.
“We might have some tough decisions to make,” Roberts said regarding roster changes. “But we’re getting close to the end, and getting those two guys in major league games would certainly be helpful. I know for certain that Brock will be in major-league games.”
Brock Stewart, another reliever who was acquired before the trade deadline, was recently placed on the 15-day injured list after four appearances with the Dodgers, where he had a 4.91 ERA. His previous performance with the Minnesota Twins showed a much better 2.38 ERA.
The Dodgers’ bullpen has struggled recently, particularly in September, causing concern among fans as they blew several games. Although they have shown improvement recently, their 4.84 ERA for the month ranks among the bottom 10 in MLB.
Roberts indicated he is still evaluating who might be best suited for the postseason. “It’s just trying to see which guys step up with opportunities. I thought Tanner (Scott) looked good in his last two outings,” he said.
If Hurt and Stewart can regain their form, they may become crucial players for the Dodgers during the postseason. Meanwhile, Roberts is keenly aware of the opportunity to boost the bullpen’s performance as the team gears up for the playoffs.
