Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Pays Tribute to Kobe Bryant Before Division Series
Los Angeles Dodgers‘ infielder Miguel Rojas took to social media to express homage to the late Kobe Bryant by wearing the No. 8 Lakers jersey ahead of the Dodgers’ National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres. This gesture exemplified the lasting impact of Bryant, who had a distinguished 20-year career in the NBA, equally divided between wearing jersey numbers 8 and 24, as reported by ESPN.
Kobe Bryant’s career achievements include his lone MVP title while wearing the No. 24 jersey. However, he garnered numerous All-NBA selections during his tenure with the No. 8 jersey. Bryant’s legacy extends beyond his on-court achievements; his influence is evident in the sports community, including in basketball.
During the summer of 2024, another notable gesture came from Paul George of the LA Clippers. George switched his number 13 jersey to Kobe Bryant’s iconic No. 8. Speaking on his podcast, George remarked, “I had to do it. C’mon man, I’m in Philly.” This act was his way of paying homage to Bryant, further adding, “It’s good to have those moments to just, like when you look at that jersey… ‘Yeah, this is who I’m putting it on for.'”
The Bryant family continues to actively honor Kobe’s memory. Recently, Vanessa Bryant launched a custom LA28 emblem to celebrate her late husband’s enduring legacy. The emblem campaign aims to capture the spirit of Angelenos, athletes, artists, and activists. Notable features of the emblem include the colors of the Los Angeles Lakers—purple and gold—and the “Black Mamba” motif, which was synonymous with Kobe Bryant’s persona.
