Dozens of New Hampshire Schools Close or Delay Due to Winter Weather
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Light snow and hazardous road conditions prompted dozens of schools across New Hampshire to delay openings or close entirely on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. The winter weather disrupted morning commutes and forced residents to adjust their schedules.
Accumulating snow overnight and the potential for additional snow showers throughout the day led to widespread delays. Many school districts announced closures or delayed start times, with updates being shared through local news outlets and school websites. The WMUR app also provided real-time updates for residents on the go.
Meteorologists reported that light snow began tapering off by mid-morning, but the possibility of brief snow squalls in the afternoon raised concerns for the evening commute. “Snow shower activity this afternoon could lead to quick-changing conditions,” said a local weather forecaster. “Wind chills will likely drop below zero by Thursday morning, with highs only in the teens.”
Residents were advised to allow extra time for travel and to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. The colder air mass moving in was expected to bring subzero wind chills and gusty winds, with gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph by evening.
Another weather system is forecasted to bring a mix of light rain and snow on Friday, potentially causing additional travel disruptions. “The rain-snow line is still uncertain, which will dictate any accumulation,” the forecaster added. Despite the challenges, sunny skies are expected to return by Saturday, offering a brief respite before another round of scattered snow showers arrives Sunday night.
Parents and commuters were encouraged to stay updated on school closures and weather conditions through local news and apps. “It’s always better to be prepared and allow extra time when winter weather hits,” said one Manchester resident.
