Franklin Massachusetts Crash Scene

FRANKLIN, Mass. (WJAR) — A drunk driving accident in Franklin has left a young girl dead and two family members hospitalized. The collision occurred just before 6:30 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, on Grove Street.

According to Franklin Police, a black pickup truck crossed the center divider and collided with a small sedan carrying two parents and their two young children. Aerial footage shows severe damage to the truck’s hood. All four occupants of the sedan were rushed to the hospital, where a young girl was later pronounced dead.

“It’s important to understand that Massachusetts has a zero tolerance policy for this stuff,” a Franklin resident told NBC10. “There are signs everywhere, and it’s just really sad.” This tragic incident highlights the ongoing battle against drunk driving, particularly during Memorial Day Weekend, a time notorious for such behavior.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 21-year-old James Blanchard, was arrested at the scene. He faces multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence, along with having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Residents of Franklin expressed outrage over the crash. “For those who are going to party, party responsibly and don’t get behind the wheel,” another resident said. “Make sure loved ones don’t drink and drive.”

The mother and brother of the deceased girl remain in the hospital, fighting for their recovery. Blanchard is being held on $500,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned this coming Tuesday.
