Milwaukee, Wisconsin — Duke Roufus, a celebrated MMA coach and former kickboxer, died in his sleep on Thursday at the age of 55. His longtime friend and business partner Scott Joffe confirmed the news on social media, paying tribute to Roufus’s legacy.

Joffe described Roufus as more than just a trainer, calling him a mentor, innovator, father, and friend. “His knowledge, charisma, and passion inspired countless fighters to reach heights they never imagined possible,” Joffe said.

Roufus was a highly regarded figure in the mixed martial arts community, earning multiple championships throughout his impressive kickboxing career. He transitioned to coaching in 2008 and worked with several world champions, including Tyron Woodley and the Pettis brothers, Anthony and Sergio.

In an emotional Instagram post, Anthony Pettis remembered Roufus for his support during tough times, stating, “When my dad was killed, you took me in and became my father… Together we did the impossible and made it to the top! I will always make you proud.”

The Roufusport MMA Academy, which he founded, will continue operating, promoting his enduring philosophy and commitment to excellence.

Roufus’s passing is a significant loss to the mixed martial arts community, reflecting the deep impact he had on the sport and the fighters he coached.
