Durango Tierra Del Cine Housing Project Construction

DURANGO, Mexico — The Durango municipal government has launched an ambitious housing project aimed at addressing severe overcrowding and providing affordable housing solutions for thousands of residents. The Durango Tierra del Cine development will distribute 5,000 lots to families in need, offering a lifeline to over 35,000 residents currently living in cramped conditions.

The project, spearheaded by the Municipal Housing Institute (Inmuvi), will provide 96-square-meter lots equipped with essential services such as water, electricity, paved roads, and green spaces. Jesús González Smith, director of Inmuvi, described the initiative as “a unique project at the national level” that reflects the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for low-income families.

“This is an opportunity for workers and citizens with limited resources to access a dignified and affordable home,” González Smith said. The lots will be financed through accessible credit options, targeting individuals who lack other means to secure housing loans.

The Durango Tierra del Cine project is expected to benefit at least 1,200 families initially, with plans to expand further. The initiative comes as Durango faces significant economic challenges, including a reported loss of 1.2 billion pesos due to halted livestock exports to the United States.

Local officials hope the housing project will not only alleviate overcrowding but also contribute to reducing poverty rates in the region. The development is part of a broader effort to revitalize Durango’s infrastructure and improve quality of life for its residents.
