Eagles Waive Offensive Lineman Kenyon Green Before 53-Man Roster Deadline

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – The Philadelphia Eagles have waived offensive lineman Kenyon Green as part of their roster cuts ahead of the 53-man deadline on Tuesday. Green was acquired in a trade from the Houston Texans and was expected to compete for a spot on the team, but injuries derailed his progress.
Green, a former first-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, had performed in 23 games for the Texans but missed the entire 2023 season due to a shoulder injury. He faced additional injury setbacks during the offseason. Although Green returned to play in the Eagles’ final preseason game, it was clear that the team was exploring other options along the offensive line.
Matt Zenitz from CBS Sports reported the move on August 25, indicating that the Eagles have officially let Green go. The Eagles made the trade that brought Green to Philadelphia in exchange for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson last March, but he has not shown the necessary improvement to warrant a roster spot.
The Eagles currently have established starters in their offensive line, which may have further limited Green’s chances. After losing their right guard from the previous season, the Eagles reshuffled their line and brought in new players to enhance their depth.
Green’s career has been challenging since being drafted. Although he held a starting position in 2024 at left guard, his performance did not meet expectations, leading Pro Football Focus to rank him among the lowest in the league. The Eagles may choose to re-sign him for the practice squad if he goes unclaimed.
If Green does not find a new team, it will be a significant moment in his career, as he was once considered one of the top offensive line prospects when drafted. With the roster moves, the Eagles seem committed to solidifying their lineup without him.
