NAGANO, Japan — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 shook Nagano Prefecture at 1:02 a.m. local time on April 19, 2025, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The epicenter of the quake was located at coordinates N 36.5, E 137.9, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The seismic intensity was rated at 4 on the Japanese scale, which goes up to 7, indicating that noticeable shaking occurred but no severe damage was reported.

Officials confirmed that no tsunami warning has been issued following the earthquake. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert for aftershocks.

This tremor follows another seismic event in the same region just hours earlier. A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Nagano Prefecture at 11:39 p.m. on April 18. Like the earlier quake, it also had a seismic intensity of 4 and was recorded at a similar depth.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in Japan, which is situated along the Ring of Fire, an area known for its seismic activity. The Japan Meteorological Agency routinely monitors seismic activities and provides updates to ensure public safety.
