HARTFORD, Conn. — NBC Connecticut announced significant changes to its morning news team, with Eddie Randle named co-anchor of NBC Connecticut Today starting March 3. Randle, who will partner with current co-anchor Shannon Miller and veteran meteorologist Bob Maxon, replaces Heidi Voight, who recently announced her departure.
Heidi Voight revealed on social media that she would be leaving her role to prioritize her family and personal well-being. Her emotional post resonated with many, as she reflected on the challenges she faced over the last two years, including grief and the pressures of balancing multiple roles.
“It is a major life change that I have been quietly wrestling with for a while now,” Voight wrote. “I love what I do, and it was always my dream to do it in my beloved home state. Connecticut is my home. You are my people. And that’s not changing.”
In her post, Voight discussed the struggle with the myth of ‘having it all’ and expressed gratitude for the support she received from viewers and colleagues. “Well, I’m here to tell you that ‘doing’ or ‘having it all’ is indeed a myth,” she explained. “You can have multiple roles in your life that each deserve the best of you and feel like you’re failing at all of them.”
Voight, a Milford native, had a significant impact during her tenure at NBC Connecticut. She became an award-winning journalist and was recognized for her contributions to the community, including her induction into the Gertrude O. Lewis Humanitarian Society in 2016.
In her announcement, Voight reassured fans that she would not completely exit the media landscape. “This is not goodbye,” she stated. “I’ve always said news is in my DNA, so chances are I won’t be able to stay away from media in one form or another for too long.”
As part of the programming changes, Taylor Kinzler will take over as the anchor for the weekend editions of NBC Connecticut Today. Additionally, Julia LeBlanc is joining the station as a weekday morning reporter, rounding out the refreshed morning news lineup.
The adjustments come as the station strives to maintain a strong connection with viewers while navigating the evolving landscape of local news.
Responses from the community have been overwhelmingly supportive of Voight’s decision. “It’s extremely important that you give yourself the same care, compassion, and grace that you give others,” one viewer noted, while another shared sentiments of support, wishing her the best in this new chapter.
