MISSISSAUGA, Canada — Eight men have been arrested as part of a significant investigation into the theft of more than $400,000 worth of credit cards, IDs, and gift cards from residents’ mailboxes. The Peel Regional Police, along with Canada Post, launched this joint effort following numerous reports of stolen mail in the Halton and Peel regions.
The suspects, all of Indian origin, range in age from 21 to 29 and include individuals from Mississauga and Brampton. Some of the arrested men are believed to be foreign nationals, according to police reports. The men now face a total of 344 charges related to these thefts.
The operation, dubbed ‘Operation Undeliverable’, saw police execute search warrants at multiple locations across Mississauga on September 8 and 9. These searches revealed over 450 pieces of mail, including 255 checks, 182 credit cards, 35 government IDs, and 20 gift cards.
Peel Regional Police maintain that they are collaborating with the Peel Crown Attorney’s Office and the Canada Border Services Agency to explore the potential for deporting some of the suspects.
This successful takedown highlights the ongoing efforts between law enforcement and Canada Post to address mail theft and ensure the safety of residents’ personal information.
