Wuhan, China — Ekaterina Alexandrova wrapped up Day 1 of the Dongfeng · Voyah Wuhan Open with a decisive victory over Canada’s Victoria Mboko. The No. 9 seed won 6-3, 6-2 in just 1 hour and 20 minutes on Monday.

Alexandrova started strong, winning the first five games of the match before Mboko managed a break. Despite that setback, Alexandrova swiftly regained control and took the first set. In the second set, she again built a 5-1 lead and finished the match confidently with an ace, moving on to the second round.

“I really enjoy my time here,” Alexandrova said post-match. “I’d like to do my best to stay as long as possible.” She expressed gratitude for the fans who attended late into the night despite the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. “I really appreciate that you stayed here tonight,” she added, “thank you so much, guys, and happy Mid-Autumn Festival!”

For Alexandrova, this win marks her fourth opening-match victory in nine WTA 1000 events this season, and her fifth win against tournament champions within the same category.

Victoria Mboko, meanwhile, faced setbacks after winning the Canadian Open in Montreal. This loss marks her third consecutive defeat at the WTA level.

Earlier in the day, Katerina Siniakova eliminated No. 15 seed Diana Shnaider. Siniakova’s strong performance will see her face rising star Maya Joint in the next round. Joint outlasted home favorite Zhu Lin in a tough match.

Chinese players finished the day with a 1-2 record. Yuan Yue emerged victorious against Lucia Bronzetti and will play Jasmine Paolini next.

In addition, No. 10 seed Clara Tauson defeated Olga Danilovic 6-3, 7-5 to secure her spot in the next round.
