NEW YORK, NY – Elle Duncan, a popular face at ESPN, will leave the network to join Netflix, sources informed The Athletic. This change will take place fully by November 25, 2025, as Duncan transitions to become a prominent personality for Netflix’s sports programming.

The report from The Athletic confirmed Duncan’s move, stating that her ongoing contract with ESPN would continue until the end of this year. While there was initial hope for her to remain with ESPN as its lead host for women’s basketball, that option has been closed.

According to sources, there is no hard feelings between Duncan and ESPN. She is regarded as a favorite of ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro. Duncan has played a crucial role at the network, hosting events such as the WNBA Finals and women’s Final Four, and participating in corporate events and presentations for advertisers.

As the competitive landscape shifts, Netflix is increasingly establishing itself as a player in live sports broadcasting, having secured rights to several significant sports events, including this Christmas’ NFL games. Duncan’s contract with Netflix reportedly offers a substantial pay raise compared to her ESPN salary and will enable her to work fewer hours.

{“Netflix is also exploring possibilities for additional events,”} said a source briefed on the situation. {“While her main focus will be on Netflix, she may take on non-sports opportunities as well.”}

Despite Duncan’s new commitment to Netflix, the deal allows for her to appear on other networks, with priority given to Netflix in case of scheduling conflicts. Netflix has significant events planned, such as MLB Opening Day in March featuring the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants and the Women’s World Cup in 2027.

The announcement of Duncan’s move has stirred a competitive atmosphere within ESPN as other talents eye her responsibilities. “There’s going to be a lot of people fighting for these jobs,” noted a source familiar with the matter.

Elle Duncan has built an impressive career at ESPN over nearly a decade, co-hosting the 6 p.m. SportsCenter and leading the coverage of women’s basketball. Her departure marks a significant shift for the network amid Netflix’s rising involvement in sports.
