Elon Musk’s Father Critiques Parenting in Controversial Podcast Interview

LOS ANGELES, CA — Errol Musk, the father of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, has sharply criticized his son’s parenting style during a recent episode of the Wide Awake podcast. The 79-year-old father described Elon as a neglectful father who has not been sufficiently present for his 12 children, often relying on nannies for their care.
During the interview, Errol bluntly stated, “No, he hasn’t been a good father.” He elaborated on the tragic death of Elon’s first child, Nevada Alexander Musk, who passed away at just 10 weeks old from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), stating, “The first child was too much with nannies and died in the care of a nanny. If Elon hears this, he’s going to shoot me or something.” The comment reflects a darker tension within their family dynamics.
Errol Musk continued to express concern about Elon’s approach to fatherhood, citing that his five children from his first marriage to Justine Musk each had their own nanny and struggled with basic life skills. He claimed, “They can’t cross the road. We have to hold their hands across the road when they’re like 14 years old,” underscoring a perceived lack of independence among Elon’s children.
The former engineer and emerald miner also remarked on the challenges faced by Elon’s transgender daughter, Vivian Wilson, suggesting that these issues might be a reflection of their upbringing. “Elon’s got to deal with it. It’s a bit worrying,” Errol said, hinting at a complicated family dynamic.
Elon Musk, known for his roles as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has publicly acknowledged his tumultuous relationship with his father. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, he characterized Errol as a “terrible human being” and expressed emotional distress about his upbringing. “You have no idea about how bad,” Elon stated, reflecting on the impact of their relationship on his life.
Errol Musk’s controversial remarks come on the heels of Elon’s increasing visibility with his children at high-profile events. Recently, he attended a press conference in the Oval Office alongside President Donald Trump with his son X, and brought three of his children—X, Azure, and Strider—to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Despite these public appearances, concerns have been raised by his former partner Grimes, who criticized the exposure of their son X to such events. She posted on social media, “He should not be in public like this,” highlighting the ongoing debate around parental responsibility and public life.
As of now, Elon Musk has not publicly responded to his father’s latest comments. The father-son relationship continues to be a subject of intrigue and speculation, illustrating the complexities of family dynamics in the public eye.
