Elon Musk Sparks Controversy with Trump in Epstein Files Tweet

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Elon Musk ignited a firestorm on social media earlier this week with a tweet claiming that former U.S. President Donald Trump is implicated in the Epstein files, suggesting this is the reason they have not been released. Musk’s tweet included the warning, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” Many who follow both public figures are reacting intensely.
Social media influencers quickly chimed in, including Ian Miles Cheong, who tweeted, “President vs Elon. Who wins? My money’s on Elon. Trump should be impeached, and JD Vance should replace him.” Musk responded to Cheong’s tweet with a simple, “Yes.” Another user asked if they could criticize Trump’s tariffs, which Musk appeared to agree with, stating, “The Trump tariffs will cause a recession in the second half of this year.”
This latest exchange follows Musk’s earlier criticism of Trump’s significant legislative effort, aptly named the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The two men have consistently taken swings at one another through various social platforms, with Trump lashing out via Truth Social. “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump posted on Thursday.
Musk, who has reportedly invested more than $250 million to support Trump and other Republican candidates in the past, did not hold back in his retaliation. He suggested that far-right supporter Laura Loomer should align with him in his disagreement with Trump, stating, “Oh and some food for thought: Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years…”
Trump replied, accusing Musk of “wearing thin” and asserting that he took away Musk’s electric vehicle mandates that he had been planning to dismantle for some time. The vitriol only intensified after Musk made direct references to Trump being tied up with Epstein’s notorious past.
The exchange between these two influential figures is now leading to significant speculation regarding their respective followers. Loomer noted that among lawmakers, discussions are occurring about choosing sides in this public feud. “It’s heating up. It will be interesting to see what Republican lawmakers do now,” she stated.
