Emergency Evacuation Warning Issued for Adventure World and Cockburn Ice Arena Due to Bushfire in Bibra Lake
People in Cockburn Ice Arena and Adventure World were urged to shelter in place as a fire burnt out of control in Bibra Lake, a suburb south of Perth on Tuesday afternoon. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning to individuals in the aforementioned locations, emphasizing the imminent threat to lives and homes.
The fire, which was first reported at 2.38pm, sent thick plumes of smoke over Perth’s southern suburbs, prompting the deployment of more than 35 firefighting appliances and airborne units. Despite the efforts of 80 firefighters from various units across the southern suburbs, including Cockburn, Mandogalup, Canning Vale, South Coogee, Gosnells, and Fremantle, the blaze remained uncontained and uncontrolled by 6pm.
As a precautionary measure, people were advised to refrain from flying drones near the bushfire, as it poses significant safety risks to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, potentially hindering firefighting efforts. With the fire burning approximately seven hectares by Tuesday evening, firefighting crews continued their direct attack on the fire’s forefront and constructed containment lines to prevent further spread.
Across the state, extreme fire risks due to soaring temperatures and strong winds led to the closure of 29 schools and six national parks in the South West region. Locations like Esperance and Cascade experienced temperatures in the mid-40s, exacerbating the already dangerous conditions. As the situation unfolds, updates can be accessed through Emergency WA, DFES social media channels, or local radio stations.
