Emirates Launches New Route to Siem Reap Amid Airline Shift

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Emirates Airlines announced it will start a new route to Siem Reap, Cambodia, beginning June 3, 2025. The new service will connect Dubai to the renowned Cambodian destination, known for its proximity to the ancient temples of Angkor.
Emirates, one of the world’s leading international carriers, plans to operate the route three times a week using Boeing 777 widebody aircraft. This new direct flight signals a commitment to expanding the airline’s footprint in Southeast Asia, particularly in destinations like Siem Reap that offer both cultural and wellness travel opportunities.
“We see significant potential in Siem Reap as more travelers seek authentic experiences blended with health and wellness,” said an Emirates spokesperson. “Our new service will allow passengers to experience one of the most culturally rich destinations in Asia.”
Monday’s announcement from Emirates coincides with another significant development in Cambodian aviation. Turkish Airlines also revealed plans to initiate flights from Istanbul to Phnom Penh, set to begin on December 10, 2025. This service will include three weekly flights and operate via Bangkok, further enhancing Cambodia’s connectivity.
“We are excited to add Phnom Penh to our global network, which continues to grow,” stated a representative of Turkish Airlines. “Connecting Istanbul with major cities worldwide allows us to offer new opportunities for travelers.”
This surge in long-haul flight options highlights Cambodia’s growing appeal as a tourist destination, despite previous challenges. Many Chinese airlines have significantly reduced their presence in the country, which raises questions about the future of air travel in the region.
The recent developments indicate a shift in the travel dynamic, with more global carriers recognizing the potential of Cambodia’s tourism sector, driven by factors such as the rich historical context and emerging wellness tourism trends. With the arrival of major airlines, industry experts believe a new era for Cambodian tourism is on the horizon.
