Emma Murphy Appointed ITV News International Editor to Lead Foreign Coverage
ITV News has announced the appointment of Emma Murphy as the international editor, tasked with spearheading the network’s foreign coverage. Murphy, who has previously held key roles as a correspondent, Europe correspondent, and senior correspondent, brings a wealth of experience to this new position.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Murphy stated, ‘As journalists, we have the unique opportunity to witness and report on the most important global stories. I am dedicated to enhancing our foreign coverage and providing insightful analysis on the global events that shape our world.’
Emma Murphy succeeds Rageh Omaar, who has served as the international affairs editor at ITV News for 11 years. Omaar will transition to the role of international affairs analyst, continuing to offer in-depth analysis on foreign news.
Throughout her career, Emma Murphy has covered a wide range of significant stories, including the war in Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Turkey/Syria earthquake, the 6 January Capitol riot, Joe Biden‘s inauguration, the Ghislaine Maxwell trial, the Notre Dame fire, the fall of ISIS, the Manchester Arena bombing, and the Grenfell Tower fire.
Earlier this year, Emma Murphy and her team made a public plea for greater independence in reporting but have faced challenges in that pursuit. Despite this, they remain committed to delivering impactful journalism.
ITV News editor Andrew Dagnell commended Emma Murphy’s leadership and journalistic prowess, stating, ‘Her innovative approach and extensive experience make her a valuable addition to our team, raising the bar for our international coverage.’
